Oppo, in the coming months I think I will clean up and sell my beautiful !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I love Lilith and I never saw myself selling her off. One of my dreams is to have a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but that can happen sometime down the road when I have the space and funds.Fo now I have plans that require more funds than I have time to save for, so selling her is the only option.

Kinja'd!!!

Some of you may remember when I got to meet Ben and his friends on their inaugural !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and I got to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Well they recently did their !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with great success and they are already planning the next one for August 2019 and I want to go!

As a huge TVR fan and the 25 year rule I could sell my GTO, but a very very cheap Miata to daily drive here in the US and then take the car’s sale funds and pay off the balance of my loan, have my friend Ben find me a good 94 and before TVR !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to buy and drive in their rally, and then import it to the US and have a quite unique and interesting car that TBH interests me a bit more that the GTO and I can take to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Kinja'd!!!

Ben’s Chimaera and a Griffith

So when t he time comes I will post the GTO for sale here and elsewhere. It’ll all be nicely sorted by then and the binder of paperwork I have on this car is phenomenal. Maybe BAT would be a good place? IDK

Anyway, yes TVR!

I was skeptical on “Sell GTO” until about two letters into “TVR”.

Right though? Like TVR in the US and right hand drive! Is there anything better?

Answer: No!

Oooh the want is strong with this one.  I had a first gen CTS-V for a few years and would love to get back into the LS and 6 speed combo.  And the color matches my Dakota too.

Well when I am ready to sell I will post it up here. She has been a great car other than issues from the previous owner I have been fixing.

Any mention of TVR always reminds me of the top gear quote “Wow, a TVR band - So presumably they’ll play really loud, really fast, and then burst into flames.”

When I read most of your posts about selling the GTO to get something else, I usually think that’s not something I’d do. This is no exception , but I’m not you, so proceed how you want.

Yeah I know. It is a big deal in my head and posting that here helps me figure out what I want to do. Especially comments from other Oppos. I want do other things though and I could always just fly out and be a passenger, but owning a TVR is what I have always wanted. So I am not 100% sure this is what I will do, but I have the strong desire to. And with other life changes I am trying to make having a substantial amount of my income going loan payments and other bills if I could drop the loan payments then that would help.

“In the olden days I always got the impression that TVR built a car, put it on sale, and then found out how it handled. Usually when one of their customers wrote to the factory complaining about how dead he was.” - Jeremy Clarkson, He means that as a compliment.

Of the Cerbera he said “TVR have put wheels on a thunderstorm”.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Also regarding the Cerbera; “I am driving the quickest, most noisy thing this side of a Lambo Diablo” smiling big time, and w ent on to say;

“When did family 4 seaters ever sound as good as this” and then sped off up a hill.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Cerbera - ‘..it’s like putting the engine from a Type 42 destroyer in your washing machine’ - loud in other words.

Cerbera - ‘to sum it up ...FAST, VERY, VERY FAST.’

High mileage Griffith - ‘tighter than Vanessa May’s G-String.’

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Oh, & another Cerb one: “ ...I liked this car so much, I couldn’t help driving it until I ran out of road.”

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=13&t=67858

And on the Wheeler Dealer’s side... for all that greatness Clarkson talks about... the chassis is powder-coated mild-steel trellis backbone and suspension under a fiberglass body. If the backbone has failed powder coat and is rusty... You may end up following Edd China’s footsteps to have a replacement chassis welded up, powder coated better than factory, and re- installed under the car.

Or find and be prepared to pay for one that is verified to be truly solid or restored to better than factory finishing.

So all I am hearing is you need to buy one and be prepared to do a little welding if you have to.

Is your GTO paid for?

I just feel like the cars you lust after are very niche cars and could be a big hassle to deal with, by that I mean finding spare parts or knowledge of working on them. Usually I think, that would be a cool car to have, but it doesn’t sound like you’re in the position to get something like that. I don’t mean to sound like a downer, but oppo is full of encouragement and I feel like at times someone needs to be in the dissent . I mean, I’m sure I’m one of the reasons David bought a Golf R. I think people should drive what they like, but some times you have to be reasonable, and at least think about it logically.

No, no worries. I very much appreciate a more realist approach to things . I am very aware that any TVR would be quite niche even in the UK and unbelievably ridiculous here. That would be part of getting a cheap Miata to DD when the TVR is down etc. But yes it wouldn’t be too savvy an investment if I didn’t think I couldn’t sell an imported TVR in CA for decent money when I was done with it.

Importing a TVR to CA is going to be almost impossible, but dat blue/white stripes Griffith Ben posted tho...

If a suitable TVR proves elusive and the GTO stays with you for now, w ould it not be cheaper to just ship it to Yurrup and unleash the freedoms on their turf ? A GTO on California plates blasting across Europe sounds pretty special.

Yeah, that Griffith is fucking beautiful! The only sad part of the Griffith is it doesn’t have funky door h andles.

That is a great idea too! I hadn’t thought of that at all to be honest. Oh go the glory! The long tube headers and more obnoxious rambunctious exhaust would have to be installed.

pretty much. A singular automotive experience, but part of that experience may be shade-tree mechanic work... maybe even a bit more than shaded under a normal-sized tree, especially as a grey-import .

and overnight parts from Britain.
